A base for South Korean reconstruction workers in Afghanistan has come under yet another attack, the foreign ministry here said Monday.
A rocket-propelled grenade exploded in the air near the base, located in the Afghanistan city of Charika, at 10:40 p.m. local time, according to the ministry. No casualties have been reported.
It marked the eighth attack this year believed to have targeted the base, and the third since the recent death of al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He was killed in Pakistan by U.S. forces.
South Korean officials are reportedly looking into the cause of the attack, without ruling out the possibility of a retaliatory attack by bin Laden sympathizers.
South Korea currently has some 340 troops stationed in the conflict-ridden country to help protect a team of civilian reconstruction workers, and has beefed up security around the base for aid workers amid rising fears of terrorist threats.
